Mark William Shorter

Mark W. Shorter, 84, of Becida, MN; formerly of St. Cloud MN passed away Friday April 14, 2023, at Heritage Manor, Park Rapids under the care of his wife Maren, daughter Allison and Hospice. Mark was born on March 28, 1939 in St. Paul. He grew up in Fergus Falls, MN. It was there he met and married Maren Solum on Sept. 25, 1957.
Mark began his teaching career in 1962 with Dist. 742 immediately after his college graduation. Mark taught science courses first at Tech and when Apollo opened, he transferred and spent his career there until retirement in 1997. By the time of his retirement, he had taught every science course ever offered. Mark always kept busy, he taught nursing, EMT and paramedic courses for the formally known Area Vo-Tech, he worked for Murphy Ambulance, dabbled a bit real estate with Val Henning Realty, was a member of EAA, was an avid Ham radio operator, was a hunter safety instructor, and a Major in the Civil Air Patrol. Mark was also an avid reader, he loved being in the greater outdoors, flying in his airplane, hunting, fishing, and took great care of his pets. He spent his retirement with wife Maren at the lake, up north in Becida, MN.
Mark was preceeded in death by his parents Robert and Marjorie Shorter, sister Roberta and bother Bruce. Surviving siblings Jean Shorter -sister; Alan (David) Shorter – brother and Jon (Donna) Shorter – brother. He is survived by his wife of 65 years – Maren of Becida, MN; his 3 children- Mark (Sarah) Shorter of Ramsey, MN; Theron (Cheryl) Shorter of Albertville, MN; Maren Allison (Timothy) Johnson of Becida, MN. Grandchildren Erin, Daniel, Alexandra, Joshua, Zachary, and Brennan and 2 very special great grandchildren Nikolai, and Elin Mae.
