Mark Richard Schulz, 64, of Plainfield, passed away Friday, December 12, 2025 after a long illness, his family was by his side. He was born March 20, 1961 in Indianapolis, IN, son of the late Howard and Betty (Rutledge) Schulz. In addition to his parents, he is preceded by his sister, Debbie Yates and his brother, Howie Schulz.

Mark grew up in Mooresville where he played football for his high school. He was a blackbelt in 13 different martial art disciplines and over the years taught and trained many of the officers with the Mooresville Police Department. He loved spending time with family, whether as a bowling coach, the “favorite” school, field-trip chaperone or as Papaw, introducing his next generation to badly dubbed Godzilla movies, STAR WARS, the world of MARVEL and Jeff Gordan, whom he was lucky enough to meet once.

Although Mark’s favorite Looney-toon character was the Tasmanian Devil, he himself was very calm and collected under pressure and often found himself in the right place at the right time to help. If someone was stranded on the side of the road or needing first-aid, Mark’s calm demeanor and perfectly timed Dad jokes were the perfect medicine. We’ll think of him whenever enjoying some of his favorite foods, pumpkin pie, chili, Chinese and pizza.

Mark is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy Schulz; 3 children, Daniel (Anna) Schulz, Beth (Michael) Smith and Sandy (Michael) McGee; and 4 grandchildren, Krystal and Myles McGee and Lincoln and Xavier Smith; and “adopted sons” Aaron Kidd and Kyle Pickerel. Also missing Mark are many extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will take place at the Crossland Church Annex building (Stilesville, IN) on January 17 2026 from 3pm to 6pm

Memorial contributions may be made in Mark’s name to the M.M.A. Foundation.
