Mark P. Sullivan

Mark P. “Sully” Sullivan, 75, passed away peacefully at home in Lowell, Massachusetts, on Friday, January 23, 2026 with his loving wife Mary Ann by his side.

Born on August 8, 1950, in Winchester, Massachusetts, Mark was the son of the late Timothy and Dorothy Sullivan. He grew up in Woburn with his two younger brothers, Dean and Keith. Exceptionally bright and a fast learner from a young age, Mark earned the respect of everyone who knew him. He attended Austin Preparatory High School, graduating in 1968, and began working at Wheaton’s Gas and Auto Repair, fueling his lifelong love of cars and adrenaline. That passion led him to proudly own his dream car—a 1958 red Corvette with white scoops. Around the same time, he began working for the New England Telephone Company, where his intelligence and work ethic carried him through the ranks until he retired as a Project Manager at the young age of 43.

In January 1970, Mark joined the United States Army and served two years in Vietnam as a Command Radio Tech Operator. His military service profoundly shaped his life and remained a defining part of who he was. He carried deep pride and respect for the U.S. military and all veterans, devoting decades of service to veterans’ organizations. Mark joined the American Legion in 1999 and dedicated 26 years to the organization, including 13 years with Griggs-Wyatt American Legion Post #33 in Meredith, NH. He held leadership roles at every level, serving as Post 33 Adjutant, District 7 Commander, and Department Vice Commander, and chaired or served on numerous committees. Supporting veterans—especially disabled veterans—was one of his life’s greatest commitments. Though humble, he was deeply moved by honors recognizing his service and especially cherished attending Veterans Day celebrations at his granddaughter Elliana’s school.

Mark was known for his wisdom, determination, and fierce independence—and for having the best laugh in the room. It was unmistakable, full-bodied, and contagious, often arriving before he finished the joke and leaving everyone around him smiling. As his granddaughter Elliana once said, “He knows everything—he’s like the smartest person ever.” His guidance and steady presence were gifts his family relied on and will miss deeply.

Mark and Mary Ann shared 25 wonderful years together filled with love, laughter, travel, and adventure. From Harley rides to Daytona, Patriots games at Gillette Stadium, and Red Sox season tickets, Mark was the partner Mary Ann waited a lifetime for—her constant source of confidence, safety, and joy.

A member of PCYC in Salem, Massachusetts, for over 30 years, Mark also served on its Board of Directors and formed many lifelong friendships. An admired and trusted captain, he lived by the belief that “a fair day on the water is better than a great day on land.” The family treasured time spent boating, traveling to Martha’s Vineyard and Provincetown, clam digging in Ipswich, whale watching, and relaxing at Cocktail Cove. On one unforgettable outing with his brother, sister-in-law, and nephew, a whale surfaced so close to the boat it nearly touched it—an awe-inspiring moment they never forgot. Mark also loved quieter moments, sitting on the deck with a margarita, a good book, and a well-earned nap.

Winters in Florida held a special place in Mark’s heart, particularly Christmas and New Year’s in Key West, their true happy place. Time spent in Naples and Sanibel Island, collecting shells and visiting friends, brought him great joy.

Mark is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Conroy) Sullivan; stepchildren, Sarah Conroy and her partner Casey Rogers, Katie Kenison, and his beloved grandchildren, Deven and Elliana Kenison, and Macie McGrade. He is also survived by his two brothers Keith Sullivan and his wife, Bev and Dean Sullivan and his wife Lisa along with many nieces and nephews who meant so much to him. Mark is predeceased by his stepson, Michael Conroy, Jr.

Mark P. “Sully” Sullivan lived a full, fearless, and generous life. A devoted husband, proud veteran, trusted friend, and wise mentor, he will be deeply missed. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the stories told, and the laughter that will echo forever.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mark’s Life Celebration at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Saturday, February 14, 2026 from 9:45 - 11:15 AM. His funeral service will immediately be celebrated in the funeral home at 11:30 AM. Military honors to follow.
