Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Inc. - Springfield on Dec. 22, 2025.
In loving memory of Mark Gregory Thieme, who passed away on December 18, 2025, at the age of 67.
Mark was born in
Springfield, Missouri, on June 29, 1958. He attended Greenwood Laboratory School from elementary through high school, graduating in 1976. Mark continued his education at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he earned a degree in Psychology. He was an active member and served as the Social Chair of the Sigma Chi fraternity during his time at Tulane.
In 1983, after graduating, Mark married Camila (Cam) Smith. They were planning to celebrate their 43rd anniversary this coming January.
After Tulane, Mark put his Psychology degree to good use and enjoyed a prominent business career, engaging in both national and international business before returning to Springfield to found Thieme Stoneworks, where he and his family "rocked the Ozarks" for over a decade. A true "Missouri boy," Mark had a love for the outdoors, enjoying surf fishing off the coast of North Carolina, elk hunting in the West, and spear fishing in the Bahamas. He also had a passion for the written word and contributed thought-provoking op-eds to the Springfield News-Leader for many years.
Mark was deeply committed to his faith and served as the head of the Awana program at Second Baptist Church while his boys were young. In later years, he dedicated himself to the Bible Study Fellowship men's groups, leading group discussions.
Mark loved to travel the world with Cam, embarking on many adventures together, which enriched their lives and created lasting memories. And for over twenty years, they traveled across the country to watch and support their sons in various sports, particularly soccer and basketball. Mark was actively involved in all aspects of their lives, coaching them in sports, helping build their character, and instilling a strong work ethic while working alongside them at Thieme Stoneworks.
Mark is survived by his wife, Cam; his sister, Becky; his loving sons, Rutger and Hawken; his brother- and sister-in-law, Joe and Tara; his daughter-in-law, Tabitha; his niece and nephew, Trip and Morgan; his granddaughter, Willow; and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his son, Hunter; his parents, Beverly (Kessinger) and Ralph Thieme; his sister, Cindy Thieme; and his father- and mother-in-law, Joe and Bobbie Smith. He will forever be in our thoughts and memories, deeply missed, and lovingly remembered. His family finds comfort in knowing they will be reunited in the Kingdom of Heaven one day.
A celebration of life will be held at Second Baptist Church, 3111 E Battlefield Rd, on January 2nd, promptly at 2:00 PM.
