William McFatter Obituary

The Honorable William Douglas (Bill) McFatter passed away on December 24, 2025 after an extended illness at home with family by his side.

Bill was born November 20, 1944 to Hilma Bailey McFatter and Dr. Theron K. McFatter in Dothan, Alabama. Bill attended Tulane University and University of Alabama and Cumberland School of Law of Samford University. Bill served with distinction as a District Court Judge for 18 years in Houston County, Alabama. Bill was tough but fair. His commitment to putting defendants in his court on the best, most productive path forward was universally recognized.

He was a gentle, loving husband and friend. He had many great passions including hunting and fishing, playing his guitar and harmonica, entertaining friends and family at McBeach and Alabama football.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Mildred (Miki) Thrasher McFatter. Bill is survived by his brother Theron McFatter, nephews Grady and Kelly Thrasher, great nephews Brock and Mac Thrasher, cousins Kay Gilmore Lakenan, Dr. Michael Gilmore, Leanne Gilmore Pedraja and Kim Gilmore Gay, W.K. Lakenan, Lane Lakenan Freeman, Lake Freeman and Emily Carsch, along with special friends Stuart Harrison, Ron and Clovis Greiner, Pam Robinson, Amanda Brock, Beth and Shelby Edwards, and many, many more from Dothan, the Rivercamps, Lucky Mud and Panama City Beach, Florida.

A private family service was conducted on January 31. Friends wishing to contribute to a memorial in remembrance of Bill may consider The Dothan Landmark Park Foundation or the charity of your choice.
