Mark Duane Todd, 74, of Wyandotte, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025. Born in Trenton to Jerry and Mary Todd, Mark lived a life defined by hard work, generosity, and a deep love for his family and neighborhood.
Mark shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Rose. They were married on a bitterly cold January morning at Saint Paul's on Goddard in Taylor, a day Rose fondly recalls with warmth despite the winter chill. Together, they built a loving family that meant the world to him. He was the devoted father of Jenifer (Shannon) Rutkowski, the late Mark (Lori) Todd, and David (Janette) Todd. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren-Shawna (Josh), Tyler, Rilley, Chase, and Ella-as well as his great-grandchildren, Caleb, Leia, Jaxon, and Olivia. His family was the cornerstone of his life.
Mark was a proud brother to Ed (Patty) Todd, Diane (the late Butch) Fountain, Pam Campbell, and Tom Todd. He was also a loving brother-in-law to Patty (the late Harold) Courteau.
Losing his father tragically at the age of 25 sent Mark into a deep struggle with alcoholism, a battle that nearly cost him his family. The weight of that loss led him down a difficult path, but through determination and the love of those closest to him, he fought to reclaim his life. Mark's journey to sobriety was not easy-he faced the hardships that so many struggle with, but he refused to let them define him. Against the odds, he won that fight, celebrating 30 years of sobriety, a milestone he held with immense pride. His personal battle became a driving force behind his deep compassion for others, fueling his desire to help those in need. He knew firsthand the pain of struggle and the power of redemption, and he used his experience to lift others up, offering kindness, understanding, and a helping hand to anyone in need.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Mark spent 35 years with Ford Motor Company, taking great pride in his work. Outside of his career, he had a passion for tinkering-there was little he couldn't fix. Though, as Rose often joked, those "inside the house" projects were low on the to-do list. He had a particular love for working on bicycles and salvaging items, earning him the affectionate nickname "junkyard dog" from David. He hated to see things go to waste.
Mark's generosity knew no bounds. His garage was his sanctuary, but it was also a place of giving. If the garage door was open, neighbors and friends knew they were welcome to take whatever they needed-always free of charge. He made regular trips to food banks, collecting food, clothing, and supplies to distribute to those in need within his neighborhood. His kindness and willingness to help others left an unforgettable impact on the lives he touched.
Mark's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit of compassion, resilience, and devotion to family and community will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2025 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at Solosy Funeral Home in Lincoln Park.
Funeral Service will begin at 5:00 p.m.
