Dateline: Scotia

Mark Van Slyke Lansing, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, at Saratoga Hospital with his family at his side at the age of 80. Born on December 10, 1944, in Schenectady, NY, to the late Donald Lansing and Dorothy (Whitbeck) Lansing Blair, Mark's life was a testament to his unwavering faith, love for his family, and dedication to his community.

Mark's journey began in the close-knit community of Scotia, where he graduated from Scotia-Glenville High School in 1963. His passion for hospitality led him to pursue further education at Paul Smith's School of Hotel Management. Mark proudly served the United States Air Force from 1965 – 1969. With a strong foundation in his field, Mark embarked on a fulfilling career that would span decades. In 1961, he started working at Jumpin' Jack's Drive-In in Scotia, a local favorite that he would eventually purchase in 1976. His leadership and dedication to service made Jumpin' Jack's a landmark in the area.

On October 23,1982, Mark married his beloved wife, Denise (Fountain) Lansing. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, wisdom, and generosity.

Mark was a member of the First Reformed Church of Scotia, where he served and worshipped with a community that shared his values. His interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. He loved cooking and gardening-especially growing his prized garlic and harvesting bittersweet in the fall. Mark also enjoyed beekeeping, fishing, collecting antiques and had a passion for cars and watching NASCAR. He took particular pride in maintaining his home in Charlton, NY, where he has resided since 1969.

Known for his humor and kindness, Mark could light up a room with his wit and warm presence. His wisdom was sought after by many and his generosity knew no bounds. He was a pillar in his community, always ready to lend a hand or offer a funny joke.

Mark was a beloved husband to Denise (Fountain) Lansing, father to Jennifer Lansing, Mark Lansing II (Jamie), David Lansing (Amanda), and Marci Lansing (Alexander Dunn). Mark's joy multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren, Parker, Miles, Silas, Geno, and Nora, who all held a special place in his heart. Mark was the cherished brother to Penelope de la Rocha (the late Carlos) and was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Elizabeth Lansing and Miriam Ruth Lansing Hoekstra and brother David Sherwood Lansing (surviving Dianne). He also leaves behind his former wife and mother to Jennifer and Mark, Nadine (Martin) Clough along with a loving extended family, including his brother and sister-in-laws Lynn Finnegan (Kenneth), David Fountain, Pamela DeAngelis (Russell), Susan Leupold (James), and Steven Fountain (Amy), as well as 23 nieces and nephews who will miss his guidance and humor.

Family will hold private calling hours for Mark 3 pm to 5 pm, followed by public calling hours from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville on Friday, September 5, 2025. A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 10 am at the First Reformed Church of Scotia, 224 N Ballston Ave, Scotia. Following the funeral, family will attend a private burial service at the Lansing family plot in Park Cemetery, Scotia.
