Scotia- Eleanor C. Groetch, 92, Scotia, New York, passed away peacefully at home in the company of her family on August 28, 2025, following a lengthy illness.

A Chicago native, Eleanor was born on February 16, 1933, the younger daughter of Jeremiah and Mary Slattery Casey. She was educated in Catholic schools including St. Bernard's School of Nursing, from which she graduated as a Registered Nurse. During her nurse's training, she met her husband of nearly 70 years, Donald Groetch. They married in 1956 and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, before leaving the Midwest for Schenectady, where they raised their three children. Eleanor was an outgoing person who made new friends easily. Over the years, she was very active playing golf, bridge, and travelling to places near and far. She was a devoted homemaker who returned to work when her children were older. She especially enjoyed her time in the office of Charles Peterson, MD.

Eleanor was a loving wife; a devoted sister, aunt, mother, mother-in-law, and cousin; a proud grandmother-fondly known as "Trolla"-and "GG;" and a fun-loving, loyal and supportive friend. Everyone who knew Eleanor benefited immeasurably from her intelligence, patience, attention, and care. She was never too busy to help when asked, or to participate in the myriad activities of her family. She had grace and style and loved to laugh. We will miss her terribly and will always recall her unwavering support, her valuable advice, and the love she brought to our lives.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and by her in-laws, Wayne and Shirley Strauch. She is survived by her husband Don; daughters Ellen (Rob) LaBerge of Syracuse and Anne (Bob) Cary of Albany, son John (Marion) of Putnam Valley; grandchildren Chris (Avery), Steve, and Marielle LaBerge, and Lauren (Danny Simpson) and Evan (Tien Tang) Groetch; and her great-granddaughters Julia Casey Simpson and Mia Elizabeth Groetch. She is also survived by her sister Mary Therese Casey; her nephew Bob (Karen) Strauch; her niece Linda (Jeff) Rundles; and her multitude of "Chicago cousins."

Eleanor was very fortunate to have friends whom she knew she could count on no matter what; we thank you all. We wish to thank especially Drs. C. Craig Peterson and Khyber Khan, whose care and attention over the years undoubtedly allowed Eleanor to live her later years to the fullest, as well as the home care experts from Community Hospice and her other caregivers, whose dedication and professionalism made it possible for Eleanor to spend her final days at home.

In accordance with Eleanor's wishes, the family will have a private funeral. In lieu of flowers, Eleanor's family asks that you honor her by cherishing your family and friends, treating everyone as you would wish to be treated, opening your home and heart to all, and enjoying the wonders of nature. Donations in Eleanor's memory may be made to The Community Hospice Foundation (https://www/givetocommunityhospice.org/donate), 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.

Services will be held privately.
