Mark Waterhouse Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Eickhoff Funeral Home Inc on Dec. 10, 2025.
Mark William Waterhouse, 66, went home to his Lord and Savior on November 30, 2025 at his home in Battle Creek, Michigan. He was born August 4, 1959 in Kalamazoo to Bill and Tracy (Herwich) Waterhouse.

When he was young, he attended Factoryville Bible Church and trusted in Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

Mark was a 1977 graduate of Colon High School. He was a star athlete with varsity letters in four sports. He had the high jump record and was on the St. Joe Valley league teams for basketball and football. He liked to go to the South Haven Beach and get blueberries and fried chicken on the way. He could swim peacefully, walk the pier, and watch the sailboats.

After high school he briefly went to Glenn Oaks Community College but was suddenly afflicted with a mental disorder, schizophrenia. Mark kept trying and was a blessing to all who knew him. Every chance he had he would get in the car and want to go somewhere. He'd be the first one in the passenger seat. He loved to go for frequent drives to Chinese restaurants, any gas station for hot coffee, or the Dollar Store/Meijers for bargains. He often walked to the YMCA to swim.

We want to thank Extended Care at Fremont in Battle Creek for taking good care of Mark (Morgan, Misti, Taronda, Nicole, Bree, Aubey, Christie, and Donna also formerly Bob Cretsinger and Dawn Pettie) and Centrica Care Navigators for hospice. In addition, we thank our dear friends, Gary and Debbie Allen, of Mendon for their love and care for Mark. They took him to restaurants and shopping and were there when he needed anything.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Tracy (Herwich) Waterhouse and his grandparents, Remmert (Raymond) and Helen Herwich and Elmer and Mildred Waterhouse of Athens, Michigan.

He is survived by his brother, Steve (Marilyn) Waterhouse, his nephews, Carlton Waterhouse, Dr. Nathan (Megan) Waterhouse, and niece, Rachel Martinez (Ben) along with his 7 great-nephews and nieces (Olivia, Terra, Avi, Marty, Avery, Aubrey, and Abigail).

His gravesite service will be next Spring or Summer at North Sherwood Cemetery in the family area. In his old Bible Mark wrote, "Let God solve your problems" and "The best thing that could ever happen is for Jesus to make us clean."
