Mark Ziegahn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Herman-Taylor Funeral Home - Wisconsin Rapids on Dec. 1, 2025.
Mark Alan Ziegahn, 70, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, passed away on November 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Marshfield, WI, Mark grew up with a deep appreciation for family, fun, and a good story - something surely shaped by the countless hours he and his brother Steve spent at their Grandma and Pop's house. It was there they learned creativity, resourcefulness, and maybe just a hint of mischief, including the day they ran out of clay pigeons and decided that their Beatles and Rolling Stones records would make perfectly acceptable substitutes. Mark graduated from Auburndale High School, where he was proud to be voted "Best Dancer" - a title he carried with him for the rest of his life, whether or not anyone had asked.

After high school, Mark served in the United States Air Force from 1973 to 1977, an experience that shaped his lifelong sense of duty and loyalty, and where lasting friendships were formed. Following his service, he began a 30-year career with Neenah Paper, where he was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and quick wit.

On January 24, 1987, Mark married the love of his life, Vicki (Jensen), in Wisconsin Rapids. Together they built a home filled with laughter, never-ending renovation projects, and a steady rotation of well-loved dogs. They raised two daughters - Lindsey (Sam Harriman) and Kimberly - who were the center of Mark's world. He was also a devoted and playful grandfather to Ella and Bryce Ziegahn, who brought him tremendous joy.

Mark is survived by his wife, Vicki; his daughters; his grandchildren; and his brother, Stephen (Darnell) Ziegahn. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dawn (Stephens) Ziegahn.

Mark's days were shaped by an active spirit and a heartfelt interest in everything around him. He loved biking, skiing, and fishing - especially alongside his brother and his nephew, Ryan. After retiring, he found joy in cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers with Vicki, browsing antique shops, and creating steampunk lamps under the name Mark's Vintage Lighting. He enthusiastically shared stories of his lamp-making adventures, and he made it clear that the family must find homes for his remaining pieces. They promised they would - and they already have.

Above all, Mark was a truly social soul. He could make a friend anywhere. He listened as much as he talked, always eager for a new story, a new hobby, or a new person to help. Whether troubleshooting a house project, fixing a car, or simply offering a warm presence, Mark made everyone around him feel seen, valued, and important. He adored his dogs - Mildred, Hank, and Charlie - and loved them with the same wholehearted loyalty he offered to everyone in his life.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home, followed by an open-house style Celebration of Life with hors d'oeuvres and drinks from 12:30PM to 2:30PM at the West Wing at Ridges Golf Course. All are welcome to join in honoring the life of a truly great man.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Clouse, Dr. Fagbemi, the stem cell transplant team, the kindest group of oncology nurses in Wisconsin Rapids and Marshfield, and the entire staff on 8 North at St. Joseph's Hospital for their exceptional care, compassion, and support.

Mark's legacy is one of kindness, warmth, generosity, and joy. His stories, his laughter, and his unwavering love will be cherished forever.

He always made us, my best friend Ella, these huge pancakes that were absolutely amazing and delicious. When he picked us up from school, he´d always put a huge smile on our faces with his funny jokes and brightening our mood just by being himself. Once, I had an orthodontist appointment, and Bryce, his grandson, was there, and I was invited to his and Vicki´s home. I felt so welcomed immediately, and Mark was such an outgoing, amazing, funny man who could make anyone laugh within seconds. He´s forever in my heart, and I will forever cherish the wonderful moments I´ve had to spend with him.
