Marlene Anderson Obituary

Marlene Ann Anderson, age 88, of Winona, MN, died Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Lake Winona Manor.

Marlene was born October 7, 1936, in Winona, the daughter of Edwin and Rose (Warner) Janikowski. She was life-long resident of Winona. She graduated from Cotter High School. Marlene met the love of her life when he asked if she would roller skate with him. She was united in marriage to Charles Anderson September 3rd, 1956. The couple raised their family of 5 children in Winona. Marlene loved to play cards, and was involved in many card groups. In her younger years, she was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. Marlene was a fan of the Minnesota Twins, and rarely missed watching or listening to a game. She liked to garden and can fruits and vegetables. She was an active member at Cedar Valley Lutheran Church, serving in WELCA and leading bible studies. Marlene was adventurous throughout her life. On one trip to Colorado she went white water rafting, and on an excursion on a Caribbean cruise rode a donkey on a mountain side. Marlene and Chuck spent several winters in Arizona together. She also took a memorable trip to Norway, where she was able to meet relatives and learn family history. Marlene loved her children and family most of all.

She is survived by her children: Mary Jo (Alan) Hanson, Tom (Terri) Anderson, Dennis (Gretchen) Anderson, Susie (Brent Landers) Drier, Sally (Scott) Habermehl; grandchildren: Tracy, Trisha, Tosha, Ben, Brianna, Christie, Lauren, Nick, Bridget, Matthew, Laura, Emily, Doug, Derek, Jennifer, Jordan, Anna Lee, Abbey, and Arden; great-grandchildren: Ryan, Mitchell, Mason, Carson, Xavier, Casidi, Desmond, Ella, Brody, Charlie, Alexander, Wyatt, Wren, Vincent, Harrison, Chandler, James, Josie, and Grayson; sisters-in-law, Grace Walters, and Pat Anderson.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; brother, James; brothers-in-law, Wayne Walters, and Jerry Anderson.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 17, 2025 at 11:00am at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Winona. Visitation will be from 9:30am - 11am, prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date at Cedar Valley Lutheran Cemetery.
