Hoff Funeral, Cremation Service & Celebration of Life Ctr - Winona/GoodviewPhilip Smith “Farmer Phil”, age 66, of Fountain City, Wisconsin, passed away on October 11, 2025 at his home.
Born on April 5, 1959, in Beloit, Wisconsin, Phil lived a life rooted in hard work, music, and community. A graduate of Cochrane Fountain City High School, Phil went on to build a long and dedicated career as a millwright at Froedtert Malt, where he worked for 33 years. His strong work ethic and commitment to his trade left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.
Beyond his professional life, Phil was known throughout the region as one of the best mobile DJs from 1990 to 2013. His passion for music brought joy to countless gatherings over the decades. Whether spinning records or encouraging dancers onto the floor, he had an unmatched ability to bring people together through rhythm and song. Phil’s love for music extended to line dancing nights at Witoka Tavern and the Altura Liquor Store. These evenings were more than just entertainment; they were part of the vibrant social fabric that Phil helped weave throughout his community.
True to his nickname “Farmer Phil,” he also found great satisfaction in hobby farming. He raised beef cattle with care and dedication, embracing the rural lifestyle that defined so much of who he was.
Phil’s legacy lives on through his loving family: his children Nicole Smith (Jimmy Angiolillo) and Brooke (Luke) Christopherson; grandchildren Skye Voelker (Lance Dunbar), Olivia Smith (Cody Peterson), Cameron Smith, Cooper and Chloe Christopherson; and great-grandchildren Jaxon and Emma Dunbar. He is also remembered by his sister Sheryl (Bruce) Reedy; half-brothers Joe Smith and William Smith (Melissa Gruber); his loving companion Becky Bowers; and his little buddy Austyn Burt.
He was preceded in death by his mother Barbara Von Ruden and father Donald Smith. Phil’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him—from family members to friends on the dance floor or those who enjoyed his music over the years. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and joy in remembering a life well lived.
