Marlene was born on June 27, 1943, along with her twin sister Charlene in Lafayette, Indiana to the late Elmer and Susie (Shrimplin) Burton. Marlene was a 1963 graduate of Southwestern High School. Professionally, she worked at Central Lab for 26 years and then in food service at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She enjoyed sports, including basketball, baseball and football. She enjoyed word searches and spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed.
In addition to her twin sister Charlene, she is survived by sister, Judith Burton of West Point; sister-in-law, Joann Burton; and several nieces and nephews.
Marlene was preceded in death by siblings, Robert A. Burton, Sr. and Pat Howard and her husband Norman, and Wayne Burton; and niece, Ida Phillips.
Visitation will take place Sunday, November 9, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Hippensteel Funeral Home, 822 N. 9th Street in Lafayette. Funeral services will follow on Monday, 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Pastor Clint Fink will officiate. Interment will take place at West Point Cemetery. I worked with Marlene at St E, and I know Marlene will be missed. I always saw her with a smile on her face and a good word for everyone. My condolences to the family.

I went to Southwestern with the Burton sisters and then worked with them at Centralab Electronics. They are all 3 the kindest, sweetest people I have ever known. They were kind to everyone. I know Marlene will be missed by her sisters and everyone who knew her.

She was a very sweet lady, she worked with my mother, I knew Ida very well and she lived in my mother neighborhood. My prayers our with the family may she rest in peace
