Marlene's Life and Journey

On July 17, 1956 in San Francisco, CA, Eddie B. & LuLa Mae Carter welcomed their sixth child, Marlene Carter-Vargas. She shared an especially close bond with her mother, whose love and guidance shaped much of the woman she became. As she developed, Marlene was self-assured, studious, and a determined individual which allowed her to achieve any and everything that crossed her path. She excelled in school allowing her to graduate from Lowell High School, the highest ranked school (academically) in San Francisco.

After graduating, she pursued her passion and became a pharmacy technician, working for Rite-Aid and San Francisco General Hospital; and dabbled in modeling. Marlene built a life grounded in love and resilience. She carried her roots with her wherever she went, creating a home where family, faith, and tradition remained central. Her greatest joy came from raising her children and

later watching her grandchildren grow, always showing up with love, guidance, and an open heart.

Those who knew Marlene knew her love for dance, music, and especially Michael Jackson. We will all remember her for her strength, compassion, and unwavering devotion to family. Whether she was sharing stories, offering wisdom, or simply enjoying the company of loved ones, she created moments that will be cherished for generations.

Marlene lost her extended battle with Alzheimer's on October 1, 2025, however she was peacefully greeted in heaven by her father, Eddie; mother, LuLa; and brothers, Pierre and Jeff Carter.

She leaves to mourn her passing her children Christopher (Talia) Coffey, Christine Coffey, and Raphael (Nacess) Coffey; grandchildren Ka'Miyah Wallace, Kenzo Coffey, Anu Coffey, Kamden Coffey, Dessiyah Coffey, and Ezekiel Coffey; sisters Barbara Blount, Virginia (Everett) Savoy, Freddye (Hanif) Kassim, and Diane Carter; aunt Evelyn Fisher and uncle Henry (Betty) Larkin; nieces and nephews who called her "TT"; and a plethora of cousins.
