Marlene Fairlie of Brenham, Texas, was peacefully swept away by Jesus Christ, her personal Lord and Savior, on November 3, at the age of 89.

She is survived by children and spouses: Robert and Janice Fairlie, Richard Fairlie and David Santos, and Holly and David Meier.

Marlene is also survived by her grandchildren: Adrienne Fairlie and friend Filippo Busalacchi, Scott Meier and Virginia Braly, and Bethany Meier and friend Augustine Salazar, and her great granddaughter, Lily Meier, along with her special granddog Gus. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Fairlie, Sr.

Marlene was born in Houston on May 26, 1934, and attended Northside High School (formerly Jefferson Davis High School). After graduating from the University of Houston, she began a career in teaching that encompassed public education, special needs programs, and the First Baptist Church School of Brenham.

A devoted grandmother, Marlene retired at age 60 to help shepherd her three grandchildren through their early years in school and extracurricular activities. She cared deeply about education and firmly believed that learning is an investment in today's children and tomorrow's future.

Throughout her life, Marlene benefited from an unwavering faith in God, a strong will to live, and the love and prayers of family and friends. She was a deeply committed member of the First Baptist HOPE Sunday school class for more than 40 years.

Visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel on Monday, Nov. 6 from 5 to7 p.m. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 10:00 am at the Brenham First Baptist Church downtown sanctuary.

Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Meier, Filippo Busalacchi, Augustine Salazar, James Fritz, Travis Meier, and Charles Matejowsky.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church School of Brenham and Amedisys Hospice Care.
