Marlene J. (Halm) Hurr, 81, of LaSalle, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Allure of Mendota.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 9, 2024 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Peru with Rev. Tom Redig, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be 9-10:50 AM Saturday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.
Marlene was born October 26, 1943 in LaSalle to Clyde and Ruth (Lamps) Halm. She was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School and a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Peru.
Marlene owned and operated Marlene's Cheese Castle in LaSalle. Her entrepreneurial spirit was nurtured from an early age, helping and watching her parents run their egg factory, Halm's Hatchery. Family trips to Wisconsin sparked the idea of the Cheese Castle.
Marlene was an avid animal lover, having many pets over the years, including rabbits, birds, cats, dogs, and of course, chickens. She loved to sing and laugh but, above all else, she cherished every moment spent with her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Vicki (Ron) Rodriguez of Peru; one son, James Hurr of LaSalle; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Mazie (Sam) Ruzic of Rockford.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
