Marlene Jussif Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home - Salem on Jan. 17, 2026.
Marlene Jussif, 90 of Salem NH passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, with family by her side. Marlene was born in Ober-Ramstadt, Germany, the daughter of Anna and Wilhelm Gschwind. She immigrated to the United States in 1954 and shortly after became an American citizen.

Marlene began working at just 18 years old in the textile industry, demonstrating early on a strong work ethic and determination that would define her life. She later built a long career in the semiconductor industry, where she worked as an engineering technician until her retirement. Marlene was predeceased by her husband Sadik Jussif early in her marriage and went on to raise her four sons – Ryan, Steven, Alan and Jason- largely as a single mother. Her Sons were the center of her world, and her greatest priority was ensuring they had guidance and support and the tools to live fulfilling lives. Even as her health declined, her instinct was always to comfort and care for them.

Later in life, Marlene found love again with her longtime partner, Nick Giarusso. They shared many years together and loved each other dearly until Nick's passing in 2006.

Marlene was the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, who brought her great joy.
She was deeply passionate about her animals, most recently Heidi and Thor, and took great pride in their happiness and well-being. Known affectionately by her sons as a "task master", Marlene was rarely idle, always finding something that needed attention. Deeply independent, she remained active and determined to take care of herself up until the day of her passing.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 21 from 4-7pm with a time of sharing at 6pm at Douglas and Johnson funeral home, 214 Main Street, Salem NH, 03079.
