Marlene Ann Korn, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 27 in Perrysburg, after a Christmas filled with the joy and laughter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She lived a life marked by devotion, curiosity, and quiet strength. In her early years, she worked in government service, but she chose to step away from her career to devote herself fully to raising her family - a choice that shaped the lives of her children and generations beyond them.
She found deep happiness in simple, beautiful things: tending her garden, reading a good book, preparing meals that brought everyone to the table, and cheering from the sidelines as her grandchildren played sports. Some of her most cherished moments were spent at her home along the river, where she welcomed her grandchildren for countless hours of conversation, laughter, and togetherness.
Her heart for others extended far beyond her own family. She volunteered for many years when CedarCreek Church was just beginning, and she continued to give her time through ministries throughout Toledo that helped those struggling with addiction find hope and a way back onto their feet. There was no one she would not help, no story she would not listen to, and no need she would turn away from.
With her husband, John, she shared a love of travel and adventure - exploring England, Scotland, Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and France, and taking long road trips to Alaska, the West Coast, and the Southwest. They often spent their winters in Florida, enjoying new places, new friendships, and time together.
Her life was not measured by accomplishments or accolades, but by the depth of her kindness, the steadiness of her presence, and the way people felt seen, welcomed, and cared for when they were with her. And in the small, handwritten notes she left behind for her children and grandchildren, she often signed off with the simple words that captured her heart best:
"Love ya bushels!"
