Richard "Red" Buffington, 80, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away on February 3, 2026, at St. Charles Hospital.
Red was born on November 28, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, to Wilbur and Betsy (Martin) Buffington. He attended Genoa High School before spending much of his life farming. He farmed for many years and was employed by Gruetter Farms before transitioning to Hirzel's Canning, where he worked for 15 years until his retirement.
In his free time, Red found joy in the simple things in life. He took great pride in tending to his vegetable gardens and caring for his chickens. He enjoyed trapping muskrat, collecting coins, and watching wildlife at Crane Creek. In years past, he also kept beehives and enjoyed collecting honey. His family fondly remembers him for being proudly "ditherent," a trait that brought many smiles and stories over the years.
Red is survived by his children, Kelly, April, and Sara Buffington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Holly Buffington; his parents, Wilbur and Betsy Buffington; his brothers, Wilbur, Clarence, and Jack Buffington; and his sister, June.
Friends and family may be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 501 West Street, Genoa, Ohio. A funeral service will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made in care of the family to Robinson-Walker Funeral Home - Genoa.
