Marlene Kyea Obituary

Marlene Kyea

August 19, 1942 - November 25, 2025

Marlene Kyea, beloved sister, friend, and educator, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, in Rochester, NY, at the age of 83. Born on August 19, 1942, in Au Sable Forks, New York, Marlene spent her later years in Queensbury, NY.

The daughter of Jerry Kyea and Marie Sawyer, Marlene grew up in Au Sable Forks. She attended grade school at Holy Name School and graduated from Au Sable Forks High School.

After high school, she worked at McMartin Motors in Plattsburgh. Marlene then taught Sunday school and entered the Sisterhood with the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of Ogdensburg, serving faithfully for ten years.

After leaving the Sisterhood, Marlene attended St. Rose College in Albany, where she earned her master's degree in teaching. She embraced her calling as a first-grade teacher and later became an administrator in Corinth, NY.

In her retirement, Marlene settled in Queensbury, NY. She was known for her love of West Highland White Terriers ("westies"), her passion for reading, and her artistic talent in woodburning designs. Marlene's warmth and creativity brought comfort and happiness to those around her.

Marlene is survived by her devoted brother, Marvin (Pamela) Kyea, and sisters-in-law, Gail and Helena. She will be fondly remembered by her 24 nieces and nephews, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jerry and Marie, and siblings Charlotte, Virginia, Mary Gertrude, Floyd, Wallace, Paul, Roger, Leonard, and Robert.

In her memory, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to any organization dedicated to helping children, reflecting her lifelong commitment to making a difference in young lives.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Clement Rimonds, HGN on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Name Church in Au Sable Forks, with burial to take place immediately following at Holy Name Cemetery.

Yesterday

My deepest condolences to the family. Marlene was an extraordinary teacher who made a lasting impact on so many students, including two of my own children. I also had the privilege of volunteering in her classroom, where her kindness, patience, and genuine love for her students shone through every day. She was an incredible human being.
Keeping your family in my thoughts during this difficult time.
