Marlene Schaffer, age 86, of Huron, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at her home in Huron.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial to follow at St. Martin Cemetery.

Visitation, with her family present will be from 5-7 p.m., on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. A Rosary will begin at 6:15 followed by a Scripture, and Time of Sharing Service. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service on Friday morning.

Marlene was born on February 21, 1939 in Jamestown, ND to her parents Ralph & Margaret Smith. Marlene grew up in Pingree, ND and graduated high school from Jamestown, ND. Throughout her life she had several career paths, but her passion was always nursing. She graduated from Huron College of Nursing in May 1985. Throughout her life, she found great joy and meaning in her work as a nurse. She touched countless lives, and was known for her kindness, skill, and unwavering dedication. An accomplished seamstress, she poured love into every stitch, often sewing gifts that became cherished keepsakes.

She dedicated her life to her family, always there with some witty encouragement for her children. She was married to the love of her life Ronald E. Schaffer on September 8, 1959. Together they raised their children Rodney, Ronald W., Sandra, Angela, Marilyn, Marilee, Robert & Catherine. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren & great grandchildren who will forever cherish her memory.

Her Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. Rooted in prayer, the Sacraments, and trust in God's will, she lived with grace, humility and love.

She is survived by her children, Rodney (Jill) Schaffer, Angie Schaffer, Marilyn (Bob) Olliver, Marilee (Ron) Rounds, Robert Schaffer, & Cathy Blumenauer. Grandchildren, Nick Schaffer, Cassie (Dallas) Kiehn, Will (Veronica) Schaffer, Callie (Blake) Donnelly, Tedd Schaffer, Tyler (Morgan Middleton) Olliver, Michaun (Aaron) Petty, Jesse (Chelsea) Currier, Danielle (Dallas Corcoran) Currier, Stuart (Panteara) Rounds, Kati (Alex) Van't Hof, Cory (Teesha) Schaffer, Cameron (Cheyenne) Schaffer, Ryan Blumenauer, Dylan (Bethany) Blumenauer. Great Grandchildren, Lennon, Gracie, Ty, Maren, Chloe, Jayce, Miley, Zack, Walker, Kailey, Holly, Lily, Cyrus, Clover, & Charlotte, sister Marge Schnaufer & many nieces & nephews

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald, children Sandi, Ronald (Chip), son-in-law Daniel Currier, parents Ralph & Margaret Smith, brothers Gene Smith, Richard Smith, Robert Smith & sister Shirley Smith.

I worked with Marlene years ago at Snow Huether. She was a fun person to be around. I always enjoyed seeing her on numerous locations around Huron. I will miss talking and laughing with her. My sympathies to her family and friends. Ruth Bennett
