Marlene June Ver Steeg was born July 12, 1938 in Poweshiek County, Iowa the daughter of Henry Edgar and Alta Grace (Deaton) Shannon.
Marlene was raised in Monroe, Iowa. On January 12, 1963 she was united in marriage to Billie Leon Ver Steeg at the First United Methodist Church. She graduated from Americana Beauty School in 1974 and was a hairdresser in Knoxville until her retirement.
Marlene cherished her family and loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She and Bill were also faithful members of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Marlene passed away Sunday, November 30, 2025 at West Ridge Specialty Care in Knoxville at the age of 87 years.
In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 2016, one daughter Belinda LaFollette and siblings: Wayne, Harlan, Marlan, Max, Jean, Violet and Helen Colyn.
Those left to cherish Marlene’s include her children: Donald Ray (Jeni) of Marshalltown, Randy Dean (Jeri) of Odessa, Texas and many grand and great-grandchildren and other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Care Initiatives Hospice Care Team, 4 South Main, Albia, IA 52531.
