Marlene Werling Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home & Crematory on Jan. 16, 2026.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marlene Werling, 94, who departed this life on January 15, 2026, after a five year battle with dementia, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on October 10, 1931, in Osgood, Indiana, Marlene lived a life characterized by simplicity, love, and devotion to her family and friends.
Marlene was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter/caregiver, Shannon Werling; sons, James (Lois) Werling, Timothy (Janet) Werling, and Daniel (Kathy) Werling; and her grandchildren, Lauren, James III, Matthew, Marisa, Douglas, and Joseph, as well as four beloved great-grandchildren. These family bonds were at the heart of her life, and she took immense pride in each of their accomplishments.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, William and Florence Hammond, and siblings, Loretta Tucker, Marge Hammond, Helen Pine, Art Hammond, Bill Hammond, Jack Hammond, Velma Morelli, and Paul Hammond.
Known for her love of reading and her enjoyment of TV and movies, Marlene found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her faith was an integral part of who she was, as she actively participated in the Latter Day Saints Church, raising her four children in the Catholic tradition.
In reflecting on Marlene's life, we remember a woman whose warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on those around her. Her ability to nurture relationships and create a loving home will be her enduring legacy. Marlene will also be remembered for her great sense of humor.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 22nd, 2026 at 1:00pm at the Arlington Memorial Gardens, 2145 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231. Family and friends will gather at 12:45pm in the Family Gathering Area at the cemetery. A celebration of life for Marlene will be held at a later date with information to follow.
