Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sullivan Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. on Dec. 7, 2025.
Marlene Frey Whitaker, devoted wife, loving mother, doting gramma, dear aunt and friend, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Monday, December 1, 2025. She was 85.
She was born at home on Bethel Street in Columbia, Lancaster County, PA, to the late Earl B. Frey and Grace S. Frey.
She was a graduate of Enola High School, class of 1956. She worked at Amp for 20 plus years before staying home to raise her son, Dane. She returned to work as an administrative assistant for the Junior League of Harrisburg. She retired in 1999 after 21 years of service.
She was married to her late husband, Daniel Franklin Meredith Jr (Bud) for 67 years.
She is survived by her son, Dane M. Whitaker (Tammy Kimmel Whitaker), Grandson, Cordell J. Whitaker (Mackenzie Wentz), Granddaughter, Samantha M. Whitaker (Glenn Schmuck III) and Great Grandson Cannon E. Whitaker.
She is survived by her brother E. Barry Frey (Carolyn), her two sisters, Susan Miller, Dawn Bowersox (Don) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mar's family was the joy of her life. She was enormously proud of her son, Dane, and deeply appreciative of his devotion to her.
She was a lifetime member of the Enola First Church of God where she spent many years playing the piano for the church service. She also served multiple times, next to Bud, as the youth leader and had a hand in writing the church constitution.
Visitation will be held at Enola First Church of God, 9 Sherwood Drive, Enola, PA 17025 on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Enola First Church of God or Homeland Hospice.
