Marlin Neil Brownawell II, 65, of Sparks, Maryland, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025.
Born on May 14, 1960, in Pennsylvania, Neil was the son of Eleanor Brownawell and the late Marlin N. Brownawell. He was the beloved husband of 38 years to Jean W. Scheffenacher and a devoted father to Emily Brownawell. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Chris Brownawell and his wife Carol, and Amy Brownawell and her husband Michael. Also survived by many loving family and friends.
Neil received a Catholic education, graduating from Trinity High School before earning his master's degree from Mount St. Mary's University. He dedicated his professional life to the banking industry, where he built a respected career through hard work, integrity and commitment.
An Eagle Scout in his youth, Neil remained active in his community throughout his life. He was a proud member of the Maryland Club and the Greenspring Valley Hunt Club. A passionate sportsman, he enjoyed playing squash and golf, and was an enthusiastic supporter of his daughter's athletic pursuits. He was also a lifelong dog lover, having cared for four cherished canine companions over the years.
Neil had a quiet strength and a deep compassion, especially for the elderly, and he gave generously of his time and care to those in need. He will be remembered as a steady, loving presence whose kindness and dedication touched many.
In keeping with the family's wishes, services will be private.
