Marlin D. Summers, 79, of Altamont, IL, passed away the evening of Friday, August 29, 2025 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. A Private Graveside Service & Interment will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia with Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. The family requests casual attire. Military Rites will be accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com Marlin Dale Summers was born on August 28, 1946 in Mulberry Grove, IL, the son of Clarence Thomas and Beulah Marie (Matthews) Summers. He married Kay Lynn Kistler on May 08, 1992. They enjoyed 45 wonderful years together. Marlin was a proud United States Army Veteran. Throughout his life, he held various positions, beginning as a machinist at Caterpillar Inc., then transitioning to a truck driver, and eventually retiring from the Illinois Department of Transportation. Marlin was a man of simple pleasures, finding joy in riding horses and motorcycles. He had a deep passion for antique cars and hot rods, enjoyed raising cattle, and was an avid pool player. Most importantly, he cherished the moments spent with his family and friends. Mr. Summers is survived by his wife Kay Summers of Altamont; son, Jerade Summers of Vandalia; daughter, Latisha Grieco and husband Jason of Lacey, WA; brothers, Jimmy Summers and wife Cindy, Bobby Summers, Brian Summers, and Tony Summers and wife Betty, all of Vandalia; sister, Kathy Wollin of Ramsey, Connie Hoover and husband Mike of Broken Arrow, OK, Patty Jackson of Vandalia, Lannie Stewart and husband Doug of Charleston, and Dawn Goodin and husband Jeff of TX; grandchildren, Dylan Summers of Vandalia, Jacob Summers of MO, Micah Summers of Vandalia, Kortny Dusek of Maryville, and Tayler Sloan of Collinsville; 5 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Lester Summers; infant sister, June Summers; brother, Kenneth Summers; sisters, April Blankenship and Sandra Springer.
