Marnes (Hill) Christy
August 22, 1942-June 29, 2023
On an ordinary day of the week, we lost an extraordinary person. Following a stroke earlier this year, Marnes (Hill) Christy, 80, passed away June 29, 2023, with her husband holding her hand and her family by her side. Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for helping the family say goodbye.
Born in Davenport, Iowa, August 22, 1942, Marnes met Eugene (Gene) Christy at a freshman dance at Illinois State. They danced, they married on September 2, 1961, and they spent the next 61 years dancing through life together.
Faith, family, and friends were everything to Marnes. From coordinating church luncheons, decorating cakes for family, hosting dinner parties for friends, and everything in between, she truly had a giving heart. She was there for every milestone of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids…their cheerleader, their mom, their grandma, their GG.
She will be missed terribly, but her family is comforted knowing she is in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Those left to carry on her legacy of love and devotion are her husband; daughters Lisa (Dave) Parker, Tammy (Buddy) Wakefield; grandchildren Christy (Randy) Wieckhorst, Danica Parker, Casey (Andrew) Cook, Travis (Kim) Parker, Ty Wakefield; great-grandchildren Reece, Ryleigh, and Trace Wieckhorst, Presley Parker; brothers Jack and Bunker Hill; sisters Jill (Mike) Dean, Connie Blomquist, Ginny (Terry) Adams; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents Clarence Hill and Kathleen Norcross; brothers David Hill and Richard Norcross; sister Kathy (Joe) Hughes.
Services will be at Heritage Church Rock Island, Illinois, Monday, July 3. Visitation 10-11 a.m., with funeral to follow at 11 a.m. The family asks that donations be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or Heritage Church Rock Island in lieu of flowers or gifts.

Gene and family: I'm so sorry for your loss. It was always a pleasure to be around Marnes at work or with our dinner group.
