Marquez Lopez Obituary
Marquez Alan Lopez, 41, of Grand Rapids, beloved son, Dad, Papa, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, after a short hospital stay. He is survived by his daughters Alana Lopez, AzjiEona Heard- Lopez, and Ahmani Jones Lopez, his Jellybean (granddaughter), Arelis Atkins-Lopez, mother, Norma M. Lopez, maternal grandmother, Paula M. Munoz, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Although Marquez had a host of limiting medical conditions, he continued to seek to complete his Bachelors degree in Technology and had just begun online courses at South University. He looked forward to graduating in a year. Although disabled with Scoliosis, Marquez excelled in speaker and stereo installations, barbering from home and participating in the family interest of apparel customization.
Marquez embraced his friends as family. Anyone that was blessed to be referred to as such, knows he cared deeply for his loved ones. Although he was awarded Grand Rapids Central High School's Class of 2000's "Class Clown", Marquez took being a father seriously. His three daughters Alana, AzjiEona, & Ahmani were the light of his life and he was beyond proud and deeply loved each of them. His granddaughter Arelis, or JellyBean as he called her, was the air that brought him life and hope.
While in middle and high school, Marquez excelled in many sports including football, wrestling, baseball, and weight lifting and was a regular at Gus Macker tournaments with his childhood friends. He enjoyed fishing, grilling, cars, stereos, and motorcycles and setting off a good firework show on the 4th of July, a tradition he assumed after his father passed. Ardmore Street will be a little dimmer now.
Marquez is preceded in death by his father, Octavio Lopez, brother, Guadalupe (Bet) Humberto Lopez, maternal grandfather, Humberto Munoz, paternal grandparents, Guadalupe and Viola Lopez, his beloved Aunt, Luvy Martinez (Lopez), and Uncle, Guadalupe Lopez Jr.
