Marsha Weatherhead Obituary

Marsha Patty Bruening Weatherhead

1947 ~ 2025

West Valley City, Utah-Marsha Patty Bruening Weatherhead passed peacefully from this earth, surrounded by family, on July 24th, 2025. Marsha was born on March 17, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Marsha was the youngest of eight children born to Albert and Gertrude Bruening. She grew up in Salt Lake City where she learned toughness and grit by playing with her older brothers.

Marsha first met Dave Weatherhead while playing volleyball in middle school. She didn't realize that later he would become the love of her life. They reconnected when he brought his parents' new car to pick up her friend for a ride. Thankfully her friend was busy, and Marsha was able to take the ride with Dave. This is where their love story began. Marsha and Dave courted all through high school and stayed together while Dave enlisted in the Navy. After two years of writing letters and sending voice recordings they married on June 20th, 1969, and moved to Alameda California where Dave was stationed. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple for time and all eternity.

Marsha lived to provide joy for her family. Whether it was on family trips or playing games in the front yard Marsha would always make everything a production. Marsha even painted Disney characters on the cement fence in the backyard and was often seen feeding the birds and squirrels. Once her kids were grown, she was able to create whimsy and amusement for her grandkids. She loved to spoil and spend time with her grandbabies. You could always count on Grandma and Grandpa Weatherhead to be in the outfield watching a baseball or softball game, on the sidelines for a basketball or lacrosse game, in the audience for dance or theater performances, and sitting in primary to listen to a talk or prayers given by the grandkids. They even drove to Texas to watch their Texas grandbabies play soccer.

Marsha also loved to teach. She especially loved teaching the gospel to the youth in Sunday school. She would spend most of her spare time preparing for her next lesson. Her props and visuals were so elaborate she had to be let into the church on Saturday night to set up. Her class was the place to be during Sunday school.

Marsha is once again reunited with the love of her life, Dave Weatherhead. She is survived by her children Jason Thomas (Janice), Holly Aguilar (Victor), and Lee David (Emma); her grandchildren Tyson, Amanda, Hunter, Izzy, Lilly, and Ava; and her brother Darold Bruening.

Funeral services will be held on Friday August 8th, 2025. At the LDS church located at 2976 W. Winchester Drive, West Valley City, Utah, 84119. A viewing will be held at 10:00 preceding the funeral at 11:00. A graveside will be held at Elysian Gardens Cemetery (1075 E. 4580 S., Millcreek, Utah, 84117) immediately following the funeral.

Marsha introduced me to Frankie valle and the four seasons. I would play their music on Saturdays for my kids as a sign to clean the house, I thought about her just about every time at least once during those playlists. She was kind and inclusive. I never felt like I was annoying to her, even though I know my big personality probably drove her crazy. The young women´s productions and costumes are core memories for me. She made me be Jill Pickle, so stinking creative. I loved yard games with her. She taught me how to make pie crust one Thanksgiving. Making pies is still the biggest deal to me during the holiday. She was such a great listener and had a way of making me feel like what I said mattered. And her beautiful perfect skin with those loving blue eyes. I wish I would have been able to let her know what a difference she made in my life. What a blessing for you all to have had her as your mother and the grandmother for your children. I will be praying for peace for each of you during this time of heartache.

Marsha is a HUGE part of my growing up. I can still hear her laughing and cheering us on in Young Women's. What a beautiful lady!
I can only imagine the fan fair she received!
Thank you for sharing her with us all.

Marsha and Dave were the best neighbors. They watched out for our house
which is right across the street. We helped each other out when on vacations.
