Marshall Lee Shird, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away suddenly Wednesday evening, February 8, 2023 at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. He was 80 years old.
Marshall was born October 28, 1942, in Three Rivers, MI, the son of Lester and Maxine (Marshall) Shird. He grew up in La Farge, WI, graduating from La Farge High School in 1960. After high school, he served in the United States Navy.
For most of his life, Marshall worked in the food industry. He worked as a cook at a child care center in Sparta, WI, various restaurants, and the University of WI – Madison. He later worked at Oscar Mayer also in Madison. After moving to Sheboygan Falls, he worked at several local businesses. After retirement, he worked on the ground crew at Black Wolf Run and The Bull.
On October 16, 1993, he was united in marriage with Gloria (Anderson) Rasmuson. They made their home in Sheboygan Falls. Marshall and Gloria shared many interests and enjoyed having wine with the delicious dinners that they prepared for each other.
Marshall, along with his wife, Gloria enjoyed traveling, biking, hiking, golf and gardening. He was a master gardener, and he spent much time on his pristine lawn. He loved cooking, baking bread, and making candy at Christmas time. He volunteered at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, creating floral arrangements for the hospice center.
Marshall had a loud, infectious laugh! He loved talking to everyone he met. He was generous with his time and talent, and enjoyed helping his neighbors and friends.
He is survived by his wife Gloria, son James Shird of Chicago, step-son Erik Rasmuson of Sun Prairie and grandchildren: Alexis and Christopher Rasmuson. He is furthered survived by his sister Cindy (Jack) Heal of Lodi, WI; his uncle Larry (Charlene) Marshall of Bella Vista, AR; sisters-in-law Deborah (Heinz) Hackl and Elizabeth (Ben) Koerten, both of Sheboygan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marshall will be laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery in Kohler with a private service. A Celebration of his life will be held later this year.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to La Farge High School.
