Martha Ellen Atkinson peacefully passed away on June 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 24, 1957, in Monroeville, Alabama , to the late Byongsoon Kim Abby and the late Hector House.

In her journey through life, Ellen was blessed with a loving marriage to her husband of 38 years, COL (Ret) Vernon Atkinson II, and together they raised a beautiful family. The COL and Ellen retired in Statham Georgia, where they raised chickens, sheep and she made homemade everything including jams and jellies. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 nephews and 1 grandchild. 

Ellen’s legacy of faith and strength, lives on through her surviving family members: her husband COL (Ret) Vernon Atkinson; siblings twin sister Hellen & brother-in-law Jim Pendley, sister Margie Fiasco & brother-in-law Jodi Fiasco, sister Jolynn Peoples & brother-in-law Doug Peoples; daughters CH (2LT) Kimmie Ahmed, Nicole Brown, Victoria Orton & son-in-law MAJ Joseph Orton; sons, Adam McDermid, CPT Vernon Atkinson III & daughter-in-law Jessica Atkinson as well as 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Ellen’s unwavering faith was evident in every aspect of her life. She spent her life in service working as a small business owner, youth pastor and dining facility manager. She also found great joy and inspiration in serving in the Tres Dias community and with her many reunion groups. 

A service celebrating Ellen’s remarkable life will be held at Lord and Stephens Funeral home located at: 1211 Jimmy Daniel Rd Watkinsville GA 30677 on Monday June 24th at 2:00pm, the family will also have a viewing visitation Sunday, June 23rd from 6-8pm at the funeral home where family and friends can share cherished memories and stories of Ellen’s life. Her light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
