Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory - EufaulaMartha Estelle Blesener, affectionately known as Ms. Mac, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in Eufaula, Oklahoma. She was 89 years old. Born on December 18, 1936, in Valliant, Oklahoma, Martha was the cherished daughter of Elijah Slaton and Merle (Johnson) Slaton. Throughout her life, she remained a faithful follower of Christ and a devoted member of the Eufaula Church of Christ, where her spirituality was a cornerstone of her character. Martha graduated from Valliant High School as the valedictorian before pursuing her lifelong ambition of becoming a teacher. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Southeastern State University in Durant, Oklahoma. In her role as an educator, Martha inspired countless students—not only to think critically and delve into history and government, but also to develop a passion for education itself. Her dedication extended beyond the classroom when she served as the Vice-President of the Oklahoma Education Association (OEA), fervently advocating for teachers and students alike, a position she held with great pride and passion. Even after retiring, Martha’s love for teaching endured as she continued to enrich the halls of Eufaula schools as a beloved substitute teacher.Martha’s life was marked by a blend of intellectual vigor and warm humor. She was known for her sharp wit and infectious kindness, qualities that made her a treasured presence in any room. Beyond her professional accomplishments, she was also an avid basketball fan and loved to travel. In her quieter moments, Martha delighted in reading mystery and detective novels, often enjoying these books on her porch. Her other pastimes included gardening, solving word search puzzles, and visiting with her friends and neighbors. She is lovingly survived by her son, Curtis Weaver, of Eufaula, Oklahoma, two grandchildren; Sara Fishbane of Portugal and Scott Weaver of Oklahoma City, Ok., one brother; Eugene Slaton of Arkansas, stepdaughter, Sue Wilson of Enid, and her beloved cat, Grady. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Elijah and Merle Slaton; her husband, Al Blesener; and her two sons, Mike and Tim Weaver.Martha Blesener’s life was a testament to dedication, faith, and the power of education. Her legacy will continue through those she taught, mentored, and loved so deeply. Her spirit will be profoundly missed but forever remembered with respect and affection.
