Martha Celletti Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman Southwest Funeral Home from May 23 to Jun. 1, 2023.
Martha Lancaster (King) Celletti, born 12-17-1921, passed away peacefully at her home on May 16, 2023, at the age of 101. Mom (as she was known by almost everyone) graduated from Shawnee High School and received a scholarship to Nazareth College (Now Spalding) where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in chemistry. After college she worked as a chemist at the Frankfort Distillery. She met her husband Joseph A. Celletti and was blessed with 38 years together until his passing. Martha became a full time mother raising her children as well as caring for her mother. Mom happily shared her memories of life during the Great Depression, the 1937 flood, the USO dances during WWII and her family. She loved jazz, played and taught the piano, danced, and had a toddy or two every day, especially if she was "nervous". Mom was a fixture at the Old Louisville Downs and at Churchill Downs. She loved the backside at the track and fed the workers fudge in hopes of getting better tips. Martha was a long time member of the Shively Woman's Club, Shively Democrat Club, St. Helen's PTA and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby (Gentry) and John Lancaster King, as well as her husband, Joseph A. Celletti.
She is survived by her son, Dr. John K. Celletti; daughter, Frances (AC) Scott; grandson, Logan (Megan) Scott and great grandson, Carter Scott.
The family would like to thank Hosparus, family, friends and neighbors who provided invaluable support. Mom donated her body to the U of L School of Medicine. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
