"Eugene - Martha "Joyce" Coleman, 74, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma cancer. Joyce was born on October 15, 1950, in Chester, South Carolina, to Martha and Billy Jeanes. After her parents divorced, her mother remarried Keith Phillips, a distinguished U.S. military member who retired after 26 years of service.
Joyce cherished the memories of growing up with her family and cousins in Chester, SC. However, military life led them to Europe, where Joyce had the opportunity to travel the world at a young age, even attending high school in Paris, France. After returning to the U.S., the family was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where Joyce met her loving husband, Allen Coleman, a respected Military Police officer. They married on December 7, 1968, and eventually settled in Eugene, Oregon, making it their lifelong home.
Joyce was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and active member of her community. She supported the Eugene Police Department, Kidsports, and served on local booster clubs. Joyce and Allen also ran a family-owned convenience store (7-11), which became a well-known gathering place for friends, family, and local youth, creating lasting memories.
Joyce was always present for her family-attending sporting events for her children and later her grandchildren. She loved traveling to watch her sons' basketball games and was an avid fan of Oregon Duck athletics, Duke basketball, and Clemson football.
Joyce's love for her family extended to her granddaughter, Alyssa, with whom she shared countless special moments. Whether picking her up from school or spending quality time together, Joyce cherished every opportunity to be involved in her life.
An incredible cook with a natural eye for interior design, Joyce hosted many family gatherings where her southern-style meals were always a highlight. Her home, a blend of southern charm and French country style, was a warm and welcoming place for all who visited.
Joyce also loved to travel on vacation with her family, especially to South Carolina and Hawaii, where she embraced the Aloha spirit.
Joyce is survived by her sons, Allen III "AC" and Brenton (Cicely); her beloved granddaughter, Alyssa; her dear sister, Barbara; her brother, Steve (Patti); and many close family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen L. Coleman; their daughter, Joyal; and her parents, Martha and Keith Phillips."
