Martha LouiseCurry, a testament of faith and love, passed away peacefully October 27, 2025, at the age of 92 in Joplin Missouri. Born on January 29, 1933, in Springfield, Missouri, daughter of the late Virgil Garland and Edna Grace (Clark) Green.
Martha was a graduate of Carthage High School's class of 1951. She and Joseph E. Curry were married on June 5th 1954 in
Carthage, Missouri. Joe preceded her in death January 13, 2003. Her professional journey included executive secretary positions at Carthage Marble Corporation and M&P Construction Company, accountant and estate management for various family, neighbors, church and civic friends. She enjoyed her work and took pride in the ability to connect with people from all walks of life balancing salesmen, executives, family, and community.
Martha had an immense faith and trust in Jesus and dedicated her life to teaching, learning, & ministering to members of the First Baptist Church of Carthage MO dedicating over 70 years touching countless lives with wisdom and leadership. She leaned into the Holy Spirit to guide her and honored the tradition of God the Father as supreme being, worthy of all devotion and praise. Her legacy and impact upon families, preachers, ministers, teachers, & children carries forth hope for the future both in fortitude and grace reaching beyond which is seen with human understanding.
She is survived by her loving child, MariaC. Curry of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The memories they created together as a family centered around family vacations at the beach, sports, education, and long talks about Christianity, religion, spirituality, and ministry. Competitive by nature, she was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, LSU football, and professional tennis. Her favorite TV show of late was Everybody Loves Raymond as she said "At first I thought this was terrible but now I think it's really funny!"
Martha was also preceded in death by her brother, John Clayton Green.
Martha had a passion for writing poetry, keeping up with current events, and most enjoyably, hosting beautifully crafted theme parties for birthdays, church events, commemorations, extended family holiday celebrations, and friendly gatherings.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday November 7, 2025, at Grace Episcopal Church,
Carthage, Mo. Burial will immediately follow in the Park Cemetery,
Carthage, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Margaret's Episcopal Church's Music Ministry or Carthage Crosslines in care of the Knell Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
