Yvone Marie "Vonie" (Phillips) Going
On the early morning of October 18, 2025, Yvone Marie "Vonie" (Phillips) Going, 83 went home to heaven. Yvone was born March 23, 1942, in Alliance, NE to Clifford and W. Jane (Benschoter) Phillips. She moved with her family to rural Carthage MO in 1947. She attended Charter Oak School and Carthage High School, where she graduated on May 21, 1959. Yvone then attended Beau Geste School of Cosmetology in Joplin where she graduated in Dec 1959. Once licensed she began her career at Marie's Salon on Main St in Carthage. On May 19, 1961, she married Jerry L. Going at First Presbyterian Church of Carthage. Together they built a home on the original family homestead where they have lived for the past 64 years. Yvone paused her career between 1964-1970 while her daughters were young, opening her own shop known as Vonie's Beauty Shop in her home in 1971. In 1974 she joined her brother to work in Joplin at Char-Vel's Beauty Salon, Salon 1201, after his retirement she continued at A La Mode Salon until her retirement in March 2016 after 57 years as a cosmetologist/manicurist. In her free time, you would find her reading or crocheting. Many family and friends received those handmade afghans and towels over the years. Yvone spent her entire life in church, attending Madison Presbyterian and First Presbyterian Church in her youth. In 1976, she and Jerry were among the founding members of Union Fellowship Church (a non-denominational church) west of Carthage for the last 49 years. Yvone served as Secretary/Treasurer for many of those years.
Yvone is survived by her husband, Jerry, daughters Kimbery Going and Kaylyn Pennington (Darrell) both of Carthage. Step-Grandsons Jake Pennington and Jerrid Pennington (Christy). Step great-grandchildren Cade, Riley, Madilyn, Bently, and Jeffery. A brother Charles R. Phillips (Michael Putnam) of Brighton, CO. Brother-in-law Donnie Going (Rosemary) Carthage. She was proceeded in death by her parents Clifford and Jane Phillips.
The family of Yvone would like to express their sincere appreciation for the following services of Dr C Tucker Joustra,DO Kristin Robertson RN FNP-C, Caring Mobility Transport, Phoenix Home Health and Gentiva Hospice. Though we are saddened at the passing of our wife, mother, sister we are joyful that she was able to walk into the arms of Jesus as a child of God. The past 3 years have had trials and tested patience, but the journey had many blessings as well. Yvone NEVER gave up trying with set back after set back as she would rally and keep trying.
There will be a graveside service for Yvone at 10:00 am Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Fasken Cemetery,
Carthage, Missouri. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Ulmer Funeral Home.
