Martha Ann DuBissette transitioned into eternal rest peacefully on
Tuesday, January 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in
Camden, SC, on August 8, 1937. She was the fourth child of Ernest and Ellen Brown Drakeford.
Martha received her formal education in the Camden school system. Upon graduation from Jackson Hight School, she relocated to
Stamford, CT where she immediately found work as a childcare giver. During her job as a caregiver, she went to business school to sharpen her office skills. She was employed at the Grannicks Pharmacy in
Greenwich, CT as a billing specialist for many years. In 1975 she became the Office Manager for Dr. DuBissette until he retired. She managed the office as a top notched no nonsense drill Sargent.
Martha was reared in a Christian home. She received the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior at a young age and was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in
Camden, SC. She worshipped there until she left Camden and then was united with the Union Baptist Church.
Martha met and married the love of her life, Dr. Michael E. DuBissette in December 1972. Their love was one that was made in heaven. They loved each other and it was evident as they worked and partied together. Martha was blessed with five stepdaughters, whom she treated as her own.
Martha became a member of the Links of Fairfield County, Inc. and truly enjoyed the sisterhood that existed between them. She also tried her hand at playing golf and tennis. It was almost mandatory for her to play golf because her husband found himself on the golf course every Wednesday afternoon. She had a passion for shopping and was a fashionable lady.
She was a woman dedicated to her family and her beloved husband. She took her brothers English and John under her wings to guide them in all aspects of life. She went out of her way to provide support, advice directions, help, leadership, and love. She was always known as a hard worker with dedication, and determination but extremely wise. She was loved by her siblings, friends and will be missed by all.
Martha leaves to cherish her memory three daughters: Diedra DuBessette, of VA, Gloria DuBissette of Washington DC, and Elaine DuBissette of NY. Four sisters: Willie Mae Willis of MD, Lucille Drakeford of Stamford, Janie Drakeford of CA, and Debra Drakeford of SC. Four brothers: Ernest (Alfred Mae) Drakeford of SC, Reverend John (Mattie) Drakeford of CT, Paul Drakeford oft SC and English Drakeford of CT. Eight nieces: Ernestine Green, Lisa Dixon, Kimberly Mosley, Tarsha Drakeford, Tiffany Drakeford, Dawn Drakeford, Natalea Scott, Makema Davis, and five nephews: Wilson Jordan, Larry Jones, David Jones, Alexander Dixon and English Drakeford, Jr. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Michael DuBissette, mother, Ellen Brown Drakeford, father, Ernest Drakeford, Sisters, Rozena Jones, Mary Drakeford, daughters, Linda DuBissette, Faye DuBissette, one nephew, Thomas Jones, Jr., one niece Lawanda Bridges.
Martha DuBissette will be profoundly remembered as the exemplary manifestation of a committed Christian, a loving wife, auntie, an endeared sibling, an inspirational godmother, mother, a community servant, and a woman of faith, strength, compassion, kindness, and courage who made a positive difference in the lives of mankind.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday February 4, 2026 from 10:00AM to 11:30AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:30AM at Union Baptist Church, 805 Newfield Ave.,
