Martha Alden Elstrom

Elstrom, Martha 85, passed peacefully on July 26th. Born in Minneapolis, MN to Mabel and Alden Elstrom, Martha graduated from St. Louis Park High School and Drake University. She earned her teaching certification from Gustavus Adolphus College and a Master of Library Science from the University of Minnesota. She was a high school English teacher, school librarian, technical writer, journalist and St. Louis Park city council member. A charter member of the Metro West branch of the American Association of University Women and member of several book clubs, she read widely and was an avid traveler. She enjoyed bridge and ushering at concerts and theater performances around the Twin Cities. An enthusiastic gift-giver and bargain hunter, she will be remembered for her generosity and staunch independence. Preceded in death by parents, brother John, and sister Penny Pelika. Survived by sister Elizabeth (Carl) Bergquist, sister-inlaw Quyen Elstrom, 11 nieces and nephews and their families, and devoted friends.
