Marti Hadley, 74 years old of Lake Placid NY passed away peacefully at The Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake NY. Marti was born in Keene Valley NY to Napoleon “Buck” Smith and Anita LeClair Smith on July 2, 1950. Marti was raised in Keene Valley and graduated high school from Keene Central School in 1967 at the age of 16.
As a young woman, Marti made the decision to devote her life to caring and advocating for others in need. Marti worked for various agencies including Essex County Social Services, Essex County ARC, Franklin County ARC, and private home care for the elderly. She had tremendous passion for those that she served. Marti was a big fan of both gameshows and boardgames. Those who knew her well, knew not to call her while her favorite game shows were being televised. Marti would light up a room with her presence alone. Making people smile and laugh with her humor was her gift from God. Marti had so much love for her family and friends. She spent a great deal of time nurturing those relationships through visits, cards, and phone calls. Marti was a “people person” who truly led with her heart first.
Survivors include her loving and patient husband Leigh Hadley. They would have been married for 30 years this coming May. Her four sons Erik VanYserloo, Chris Segard and his partner Jamie Amell, Dennis Hadley and his fiance Nikki Cuttaia, and Allan Hadley and his wife Lee Ann Lawrence Hadley. Marti had two grandchildren that filled her heart with joy. Nanny loved you so much Willam and Karley Grace. Her siblings include Anita Smith, Kristy McKoy and her husband Curtis McKoy and Travis Smith. Marti had a special connection to her nieces and nephews. After her sisters and brother had passed, she was driven to be a surrogate parent to them and took great pride in being called Aunt Marti. She remained close with many of her cousins and had so many people who she referred to as a friend.
Marti is pre-deceased by her parents Buck Smith and Anita LeClair Smith, her beautiful sisters Shirley Dixon and Gracelyn Murphy. Her Brothers Steve Smith, Scott Smith, and Tarry Wilcox. Her brother in law Patrick Murphy and sister in law Ada Hare Smith.
Calling hours will take place at Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake NY on Saturday, 02/15/2025 from 11AM-1PM. A memorial service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St. Jude in Marti’s name. She was passionate about the work that St. Jude’s was doing.
