Mrs. Martha Jane Wells Harris, 77, of Tazewell, GA, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024, at The Oaks at Grove Park in Columbus, GA. Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024 at Tazewell Cemetery at 11:00 AM with Rev. David Chapman officiating. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall of Tazewell Community Church from 10:00 AM until service time. The family will also be greeting friends at 561 Ronnie Rd., Buena Vista, GA 31803.
Mrs. Harris was born January 17, 1947, in Americus, GA, to Emmett Morris and Martha Lou Hogg Wells. She began her career with the telephone company as a switchboard operator before moving on to work with Flint Electric for 23 years, retiring as a customer service representative. A member of Upatoi United Methodist Church, she was an avid reader and a social butterfly. She loved potting and growing flowers, especially tropical plants. She also drove a school bus for 12 years and loved her school kids. Mrs. Harris owned and operated The Garden Shoppe in Butler for ten years. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by a daughter Allison Paige Powell Mock of Tazewell, GA; two sons, Averett Payton Powell (Penny) of Roberta, GA, and Adam Patrick Powell (Tina) of Cherry Log, GA; seven grandchildren, Adam Icard (Julia) of Columbus, GA, Mindy Harris (Hunter) of Roberta, GA, Chase Tyler of Columbus, Christopher Nichols (Kaylee) of Kathleen, GA, Cody Nichols (Tami) of Ellijay, GA, Alex Powell (Sierra) of Ellijay, GA, and Madison Powell of St. Augustine, FL; and eight great-grandchildren, Raeleigh, Adalin, Ansley, Brynlee, Addison, Luna, Troy and Avery; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine Welch (Curtis) and Emily Welch (Taylor), all of Tazewell, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Tazewell Community Church.
