Martha Trainor McBath passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024. She was born in Pensacola, Florida, on July 23, 1933, to parents Catherine Riera Trainor and James Edwin Trainor.
Martha's husband, George A. (Alec) McBath, predeceased her in 2007. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Trainor Harris, her brother James Edwin Trainor, Jr., and her four children: Michael A. McBath (Melody), James Mark McBath (Shannon), Catherine McBath Case (Robert), and Thomas R. McBath. She was also a cherished grandmother to nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Martha attended Del Mar College, where she served as the editor of the school newspaper. Her dedication and achievements were recognized with her induction into the Del Mar Hall of Fame, and her plaque still hangs proudly in the hallways there to this day. After her marriage to Alec McBath in 1954, Martha worked as a medical technician in Houston at Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. When Alec graduated from dental school, the family moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas, so Alec could finish his military service. After leaving the military, they moved to Corpus Christi in 1958, where their four children were raised and where Alec and Martha lived until their passing.
Martha always joked that she was "the hostest with the leastest!" but the opposite was true. The love she showed each and every guest that walked through her door was incomparable.
Her character and kindness were evident through her impact on her community and her four children, who share her humorous and giving spirit. "G," as she was known to her grandchildren, made their childhoods special and memorable in a way only she could. Her insightful advice, encouragement, and competitive spirit made anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Martha appreciate their lives and hers that much more. She was an avid bridge player, enjoying many games with Alec and their friends. She was always up for a game of any kind, or to grab a Whataburger, especially with her kids and grandkids. The sales at the Whataburger on Alameda at Texan Trail are sure to decline now that she is gone.
Martha's Catholic faith was very important to her, and she was a constant visitor to St. Patrick's Catholic Church for as long as she was able. She took great comfort in her faith throughout the years. Family was central to Martha's life, and she was always very happy to have visitors. Every time her kids called, she always ended the call with a heartfelt "come see me."
Martha's life was marked by her unwavering love for her family, her faith, and her community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Parkinson's Foundation, a cause close to Martha's heart.
May she rest in peace.
The McBath Family would like to say a special thanks to Mary Haecker, Dalia Lopez, and Veronica Guerrero, who took care of mom for the last years of her life. They loved mom, and mom loved them back. The special care Mary, Dalia, and Veronica gave mom made her final years as comfortable as they could be.
