Martha Mitchell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Goldsboro on Mar. 3, 2026.
Dudley- Martha Cooper Mitchell, 81, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Mississippi on September 28, 1944, she was daughter to the late Homer George Cooper, Sr. and Margarette Lundy Cooper.

Martha was a faithful member of Emmaus Baptist Church, where she found great joy in serving the Lord and her church family. She loved lifting her voice in the choir, teaching Sunday school, and was an active member of the WMU. Her dedication to her faith was evident in the way she lived her life - with kindness, compassion, and a servant's heart.

Martha was a loving, faithful, and supportive farmer's wife for more than 40 years, standing beside her husband through every season of life with strength and grace. She was the best and strongest mother anyone could ask for, offering unwavering love, guidance, and encouragement to her children. Martha also devotedly cared for her in-laws, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her life was a beautiful reflection of selflessness and quiet strength. Above all, she deeply loved her family and cherished every moment spent together, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.

Martha is survived by her daughters, Sheila M. Wilkins and husband, Keith, and Jane M. Strickland and husband, Danny, Jr.; her son, Andy Mitchell; her brothers, Joe Cooper, Bob Cooper and wife, Ava, and Bill Cooper and wife, Faye; her sisters-in-law's, Mary Jo Cooper, Shelby Mitchell and Alice Mitchell; several nieces and nephews; and a special little girl, Bella Ramirez.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband, A.J. Mitchell, Jr.; her sister, Dorothy Rushing and her brother, H.G. Cooper.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 6, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home for a time of visitation. A service to honor Martha's life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Interment will conclude at the Anderson Family Cemetery.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Gentiva Hospice for the love, kindness, and unwavering support shown to them during their mother's illness. Their gentle care and dedication brought comfort and peace during a difficult time and will always be remembered with deep appreciation.
