Martha Louise Null

With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved mother, Martha "Susie" Louise Sloan Null, on March 27, 2026, just a week shy of her 63rd birthday, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, surrounded by family. Her eldest daughter, who acted as her caretaker in the last year of her life, supported her one final time by holding her hand and respecting her mother's last request to escort her to her final journey unafraid and with unwavering faith.

Born April 8th, 1963, in Indianapolis, Indiana, She Was The Daughter Of The Late Elbert Leon Sloan; stepfather, Fred Luther Medlin, mother, Martha Jane Gibson-Medlin. Martha was a woman who believed passionately in the will of her Lord and took the challenges of life as opportunities to build up the strength of her faith in his love. Of all of her accomplishments in her life, and there were many, in her heart, none were worth mentioning as much as her three children. She Would Always Say She Was Meant To Be A Mom. That They Were Always Her Greatest Blessings. In them, she saw three gifts from heaven, perfect in the eyes of the Lord as they were created from his image. Martha was a schoolteacher and Bus driver for over 20 years in Lincoln and Gaston County. She also worked for the City of Clemson, driving the Transit CAT Bus for Clemson College.

Possessed of a wicked sense of humor (which she shared with her children), she was both mother and father, best friend to her children; and a role model and inspiration to all who were blessed to know and love her. She leaves behind a long legacy of a wicked sense of humor, faith in her Lord, love for her church and its fellow members who have become like family, as well as cherished relationships with family, friends, co-workers, and acquaintances.

She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Mark Sloan and James "Jimmy" Sloan.

To cherish her memory, Martha leaves behind her the greatest accomplishments of her life, her three cherished children: Jennifer "Irene" Null of Dallas, NC, Donivan Null of Lincolnton, NC and Regina Null of Dallas, NC. a sister, Lula "Lou" Wright of Central, SC, a brother, Michael (Debbie) Sloan of Mt. Holly, NC. sister of her heart and Best Friend of 25yrs, Jeanette McGill (Farley), Gastonia, NC, and lastly, her beloved service dog, Jake, who has made this last year joyful even on the hardest days.

Family and friends of Martha and her children would like to acknowledge the support of Associate Pastor Farley "Unc" and Jeanette McGill. They have been a blessing over the last few days, and Martha knew without a doubt that they would watch over and guide her beloved children in faith and life. They and their support are appreciated by all those who love Martha, Jennifer, Donivan, and Regina.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, April 3, 2026 at Living Water Worship Center, 408 N. Firestone Street, Gastonia, NC.
