Obituary of Martha J. Sampson
Martha Sampson, beloved wife, mother, sister-in-law, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025. She was a woman of grace, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Born and raised in
Schenectady, New York, Martha's life was marked by independence and achievement. Graduating from Boston University with a degree in Mathematics, and later earning a Master's in Economics, she began her career at the New York State Public Utilities Commission before joining a major utility company in Connecticut, where her talent and determination quickly earned her a leadership role. Martha's sharp mind and work ethic were evident as she evaluated acquisition targets across New England and navigated the corporate world with confidence.
Yet, Martha's greatest ambition was her family. Once she finished putting her husband Rich through law school and welcomed the first two of their three daughters, Martha embraced motherhood wholeheartedly, leaving her corporate career to raise her girls while continuing to contribute in extraordinary ways. She became an indispensable part of her husband Rich's law practice, managing accounting, billing, and operations, while overseeing rental properties and volunteering tirelessly-she handled the large cash receipts for the annual EnKa Fair fundraiser, served as President of the Middle School PTA, and still found time to run four miles daily with the family dog.
Martha's life was rich with adventure and generosity. An accomplished skier and former freestyle ski competitor, she brought joy and energy to countless family ski trips, gliding down slopes with elegance and speed. Her love for the outdoors extended to hiking, running, and biking, often alongside Rich, her soulmate and partner in all things. Friends and family remember her as the "popular camp mom," always ready with chocolate kisses, laughter, and warmth.
Her creativity and care touched every corner of her life-whether sewing fleece mittens for loved ones, baking trays of brownies, or planning memorable celebrations. Martha's deep love for her family was evident in every act, and her legacy of kindness, resilience, and grace will live on through her husband Rich and their three cherished daughters.
Martha will be remembered for her serene beauty, her sweet laugh, and her steadfast devotion to those she loved. She is survived by her husband Rich, daughters Beth, Sarah and Juli, brother David Bear, and a wide circle of family and friends forever grateful for the gift of her life.
