Martha Anne Simpson Simmons passed into peace eternal on October 14, 2025, at Self Regional Medical Center.

The daughter of the late Mason and Cecile Simpson, Martha was born August 31, 1932, in Clinton. A long-time, devoted member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, she was a former member of the church’s Altar Guild, Finance Committee, Church Council, and Prayer Chain and a current member of Circle #2 and the Very Important Methodists (VIMs) of the church.

She graduated as valedictorian from Clinton High School in 1950 and was a graduate of Winthrop College in 1952. She retired as Corporate Secretary of Clinton Mills after 39 years of service. She enjoyed her family and friends and was an avid reader who loved to work crossword puzzles and play bridge. Martha was an independent resident at the Clinton Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina (PCSC) since 2013. At PCSC, she was a former member of the Independent Resident’s Council and a valuable member of the championship trivia team, helping her team win victories over the other Presbyterian communities in the state! She was involved in several volunteer activities at the PCSC and a blessing to her many friends at the Community. Martha was pre-deceased by her parents; her son, John Michael “Mike” Simmons; and her husband of 65 years, Edward Eugene “Gene” Simmons.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Mike) Carbonneau of Clinton; three grandsons, Doug (Lindsey) Hendrick of Gray Court, SC; Kane Carbonneau of Clinton, SC; Chris (Diana) Carbonneau of Weston, FL; one granddaughter, Kalie Conover of Lakeville, MN; daughter-in-law, Sharon (Brad) Simmons Vanvick, of Sapphire, NC; and seven great-grandchildren: Carsen, Robby, and Rhett Conover; Amelia and Augustin Carbonneau; and Jack and Emily Hendrick. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Simmons of Clinton as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at Broad Street United Methodist Church, Sunday, October 19, 2025 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends in Cunningham Center at the church from 1:00 - 2:00 PM.
