Martha Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home on Aug. 5, 2025.
Martha Ann Smith, 87, of West Orange, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 4, 2025.

Born in Glen Ridge, NJ, Mrs. Smith was a longtime resident of West Orange. She was known for her determination, strong spirit, and deep love for her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Willie James Smith, in 1989.

Martha leaves behind the following family members. Her daughter Renay, son in law Dexter Evans and her grandsons Elijah and Gabriel Evans. Her son Vincent Smith and son-in-law Michael Barbieri.

Martha was the heart and soul of the family. Always someone you could talk to about anything. As a family we had a lot of fun. We went to Coney Island and palisade Park. Mom also took us to some amazing concerts!

Renay and I saw Sly and the Family stone, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Al Green, and James Brown. In addition, Mom and Daddy introduced us to Broadway. We saw a lot of great shows. The Original "The Wiz"! Front row!

Renay and I were blessed with amazing parents. Mom not only cared for us but her heart and home were open to our friends and other family members. Mom and Daddy bought our family home 50 years ago. My Mother wanted a house that would have enough space for our Grandmother and our cousins Bernard to live. She was a great cook and baker. She was known for her Fried Chicken and pies. My favorite was her Apple pie. Both Renay and I got to travel with Mom separately. Renay and Mom went to the Caribbean. Mom and I went to Hawaii. Mom was creative and she and Renay could create ANYTHING they put their mind to it.

We are going to miss her body and presents but she will always live in our hearts and minds.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
