Ann, Gamma or Gra'mommy, as she was also known, was born on November 23rd, 1933, in Conway, South Carolina. She met and fell in love with Walter Laird Staley, Jr., from Bucksport. They married in 1955 and together had two children, Kimbaly Ann and Walter Laird III. Ann took great pride in maintaining an immaculate house and yard, winning yard of the month on more than one occasion. She enjoyed sharing vegetables with family and friends from her small backyard garden. Over the years she was a member of several garden clubs, winning many ribbons for her floral arrangements.
Ann attended Lander College before starting a successful drapery business. She helped her husband found The Staley Company in 1991 which was continued on by their son, Walter Laird Staley III.
A dedicated member of the First (Scots) Presbyterian Church of Charleston, she was a valued member of the congregation. She was a devoted Christian who gave her life to the Lord.
Ann is survived by daughter Kim Young, daughter-in-law Susan "Susie" Staley, grandchildren Ian Young (Rebecca), Adrian Young (Adrienne), Alison Young, Rachel Edison (Tylor), Walter Laird Staley IV, great grandchildren Wesley Edison, Penelope Young as well as a great grandchild on the way, plus multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Walter Laird Staley, Jr., her son, Walter Laird Staley, III, her parents, Ernestine Floyd Roberts and James Charlie Roberts, her brother Winston Roberts, a niece and two nephews.
For those wishing to celebrate Ann's life, viewing will be at 1:00 PM followed by services at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway, South Carolina. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, also in Conway.
