Martha Jean Thomas Vaughn, age 85, of Canton passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at her residence.
Martha Jean was the true vision of superwoman. She devoted her whole life to taking care of people in some shape or form. From cooking for all the youngins at the day care, to retiring to take care of her grandkids and nieces and nephews. Then later in life to take care of her husband, mother, siblings, and in-laws. Martha Jean never asked for anything in return except for, will I see you Sunday, for Sunday dinner. Let me tell you, that Martha Jean can make a mean ham and dumplings, biscuits or corn bread with all the fixings! She loved all Gods children, when ever out in public she would stop and talk to everyone she saw. She would sit and laugh at all the crazy things SaraGrace would get herself into.
Martha Jean enjoyed working in her yard and bringing all the flowers to life. She had an awesome green thumb. When she moved in with Danny and Kathy, she would always be outside working in the garden, tilling and picking all of the veggies just attending to the house like her own. She had a knack for canning, to make sure nothing went to waste, good to the last drop. She was even sneaky and would cook Erika and her friends lunch when we would "get out of school early" or just leave to get a good meal, and we are talking three course meal cooking not sandwiches. She always made sure everyone had at least two things on their plate. Especially those fried taters for Judy or a big ole bowl of pintos for James. No one went hungry when Martha Jean was around. Now food wasn't her only specialty, when not cooking or tending to the children, Martha Jean enjoying fixing and making cloths. She also enjoyed teaching anyone who wanted to learn rather it be cooking sewing or just how to survive. But don't take her kindness for weakness, she was a Thomas after all, if she needed to buckle down and get to it she would. So whenever you wear red or see a red car, remember our dear beloved Martha Jean. Why red? Anytime she saw a red car or had to pick something out or saw something red she pointed it out because it was her favorite color.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Gene Vaughn; parents, Little Henry and Pearl Thomas; siblings James Thomas, Doyle Thomas, Ronald Thomas, Hazel Thomas, Teddy Thomas, and Betty (Ronnie) Page; and grandson, Derrick Vaughn (Lorrie).
Martha Jean is survived by her children, Danny Vaughn, Kathy Vaughn, James (Judy) Vaughn. grandchildren: Erika Whitman (Shane) and SaraGrace Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Gracie Vaughn and Addalyn Vaughn; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
