With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Martin C. Blessing, age 74, of Toms River, who left this world on August 24, 2025, at Community Medical Center. Born in Jersey City on April 4, 1951, Martin lived a life defined by quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and a deep devotion to those he loved most.
For many years, Martin proudly served as a bus driver with NJ Transit, faithfully carrying countless passengers to their destinations. Beyond the wheel, he lived for life's simple joys-settling in to watch his beloved New York Jets, Mets, and Rangers, often cheering with hope or shaking his head in frustration. Sports were his passion, but family was his heart.
He was welcomed into eternity by his siblings, William, Donald, Douglas, and Helen Blessing, who surely embraced him with the love of home once more.
Those blessed to remain and carry his legacy are many: his devoted companion, Patricia DeVust of Toms River; his daughters, Rachael Blessing of Lodi, Jillian Walker of Mesa, AZ, and Kelley Blessing of North Arlington; his stepdaughters, Becki and Melissa DeVust; his beloved grandchildren, Sienna and Anthony Blessing, and Davy Nat, Jacob, and Caleb Walker. He also leaves behind a cherished grandniece, Kimberly Slavik; a great-grandnephew, Christian Luthcke; his lifelong best friend and "brother from another mother," Jose Ruiz; and his faithful dog, Tiny Tuck, who never left his side.
Martin was a man who gave more than he ever asked for in return. His presence brought warmth, comfort, and a sense of belonging to every room he entered. His laughter will echo in the hearts of his loved ones, and the silence left by his absence will be deeply felt for years to come.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Flynn and Son/Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863. Cremation will be private.
Though Martin is no longer with us in body, his spirit endures-alive in the smiles of his grandchildren, in the loyalty of his friendships, and in every Sunday game when the Jets take the field. His life was a testament to love, resilience, and the importance of cherishing every moment with those who matter most.
Martin's story does not end here-it lives on in the people he loved, and in the love they will carry forward in his name.
