Marty and I were friends as youngsters through teens and beyond. He was a very bright and able person. Nina and I were in high school together. From his first car (a1932 Ford coupe) the bicycle shop and much later the small grocery shop in center city, we stayed in touch.

I just came across this obituary. I was telling my husband about Marty, whom I worked for at U Penn during the summer of 1992, and decided to see if I could find Marty. I still remember him so fondly. I had just dropped out of graduate school at Penn and needed a job to fill the time until I found a "real" job. We worked closely together so got to know each other well. We had great conversations. He said he had had dreams that his kids would become the next "Trapp Family singers", shared his favorite cold remedy (Hot tea, whisky, honey, and lemon - which I use to this day!), the Jewish history of Philadelphia, and of course geology (which I knew nothing about). He was the first person I told when I got a "real" job (he was one of my references - he joked that he told them that I did a pretty good job "when I wasn't drinking"). He was a kind, funny friend and mentor to me when I desperately needed one. My deepest sympathy to all of you. May his memory be a blessing.

My deepest sympathy to Ellie, and family. I always love Marty, he was always, kind, sweet, and always had a joke. He was full of life. R.I.P. Marty. May his memory be a blessing .

So sorry to hear of the passing of your Father. Marty was a very nice person, super-intelligent, and a joy to talk to. Rest in peace Marty!
